Smokefree air laws ensure life-saving protections from secondhand smoke for thousands of workers and patrons. However, loopholes for casinos persist and fail to guarantee these same protections for tens of thousands of employees and millions of visitors. Casino employees must choose each day between supporting their families and protecting their health.
The scientific evidence is clear: There is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke causes serious diseases and premature death among nonsmokers. That’s why all workplaces and public places, including restaurants, bars and casinos should be smoke-free. Everyone deserves the right to breathe smokefree air.
According to the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the standard setting body that designs HVAC systems, there is currently no ventilation system on the market that can effectively remove the toxins in secondhand smoke and e-cigarette aerosol.
